At Better Binns Business System, our mission is to revolutionize classroom management by creating a simulated business environment. We aim to foster positive behavior and academic excellence through competition and rewards, preparing students for real-world challenges.

Fostering Student Leadership, Responsibility, and Academic Excellence through a Business-Driven Classroom Management Model.


Executive Summary

 The Better Binns Business System (BBBS) transforms classroom management into a simulated business environment. By capitalizing on students’ innate desire for competition and reward, BBBS incentivizes positive behavior, academic performance, and real-world skill development. Students operate in structured "businesses," where leadership, accountability, and cooperation are essential for collective success. 

Background & Rationale

 There are two things people love: money and competition.” BBBS was developed to tap into these motivators by creating a dynamic classroom system that mirrors the workplace. In this model, students learn not just academics, but also how to lead, collaborate, and self-regulate — skills often missing in traditional classroom management systems. This system provides both intrinsic rewards (responsibility, leadership) and extrinsic rewards (classroom currency, perks) tailored to student development.


Alignment with Educational Theory: Vygotsky’s Social Development Theory

 According to Lev Vygotsky, social interaction is foundational to cognitive development. BBBS aligns with this by:


  • Placing students in social learning environments where peer collaboration and peer mentoring flourish.
  • Utilizing the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD), as managers, supervisors, and assistants scaffold learning and behavior for their team members.
  • Promoting cultural tools (like money, hierarchy, and roles) that shape thought and behavior in real-life contexts.

  • Peer accountability discourages off-task and disruptive behavior.
  • Incentives create a consistent framework for expected behaviors.

  • Data tracking: Weekly deposits/withdrawals reflect behavior patterns.
  • Increased student voice: Supervisors and managers help co-regulate and model expectations.

 Examples:

  • A student earns money for assisting a peer → PBIS reward + BBBS deposit.
  • A business loses money for hallway disruptions → PBIS consequence + BBBS withdrawal.

 Kionca Binns is an Educational Leader, Innovator & Creator of the BBBS Classroom Management System. She is a visionary educator and an academic coach. Kionca has over 17 years of experience as an educator and leader across Georgia school systems.  

Kionca holds a specialist degree (Ed.S) in Educational Leadership and is widely recognized for her leadership in curriculum design, assessment, differentiated instruction, and classroom transformation. Her background includes teaching ELA across grades 6-8, mentoring educators, and developing school wide academic strategies that align with data-driven practices and state standards.
